Birthday Wishes

Our sweet little girl turned 11, where does the time go?this year we had her party at home with just a small group of friends and family, then followed it up with a sleepover....usually we have it a the skating rink or at a restaurant like mcdonald's or the local pizza place but this year we wanted to do something a little different...and usually we buy a big fancy cake but she wanted to help make it this year....she had a great time and really enjoyed it....and since we kept it small the sleepover went very easily too.

the night before the party we took her to her fav local restaurant....

she is small but she really puts the food away, she just goes non stop and burns all those calories up! Wish I could say the same for me, LOL. And she got a big happy birthday balloon at school with a boyd's bear on the end of the string....that really made her day!!

I'm a little late posting these next pics but wanted to put them on here anyway....

my little witchy halloween gal...

took the pics after the trick or treating, she is so full of candy and juice and pop at this point, and she was fighting the sleepybugs in her eyes....but she had a great time and finally fell asleep in her bean bag chair....so just picked her up and tucked her into bed cause by then it was my turn to go get that candy bag and munch out too!! And I had bought gobs of the goodies to give away, but since we didn't have many trick or treaters we had candy and junk food all over the place....hmmm,no wonder I cant zip my jeans up....guess that means I need to crank that treadmill up and work my way back from all those yummy calories I consumed...

Hope you enjoyed the pics, thanks for stopping in and have a great day!!

Our Dinner Surprise....

or maybe I should call this post the "Hot Flashes in the Kitchen"....after all, the kitchen is definitely not the best place to be when the cursed heat flushes your body and its all you can do to keep the sweat out of your eyes....then you spend more time looking in the fridge for something then you do looking after the stove!!....ok, the looking in the fridge is just an excuse so you can feel that cold air and hope it helps just a little but we wont tell the men that!!LOL....

a couple of nights ago I cooked a wonderful dinner for my bunch....well...ok, I sorried out and no bisquits or cornbread, but at least we had a loaf of bread.....

country fried chicken, yummy!!! cooked in that big ole iron skillet.....

corn,no not on the cob but the easy way, out of the can!

mashed potatoes, not that instant kind either..my bunch wont eat them...

oops!! wrong potatoe!! lol.....

sauer kraut and weiners.....one of my favorite foods

green beans.....and another can of peaches for desert....

ok....it was an easy dinner but still a good one.....

hmmm, perfect table??? yeah, right! LOL!! More like I get it ready and throw it on the table....

so I called them to the table and we sat down and dug in when.....

ooops!!! what did I do???? well, what I didn't do was heat that can of corn!!! Hey, I put it in the pan and put it on the stove and a few minutes later took that pan of corn and put it in a bowl on the table...how in the world did I forget to turn the burner on to heat it up?? and since I used a pot holder when I got the pan off the stove I never realized the pan wasn't hot!! I'm blaming it on those change of life memory lapses..... some of you know what I'm talking about, and you young gals will learn one of these days!!!

but after the shock of taking a bite of cold corn everyone laughed and loved me anyway....I offered to heat the corn in the microwave for them but they said no, they'd just eat it that way....but I didn't see anyone take another bite of the corn...lol, oh well, who could blame them.

Just thought I'd share this little tale of our dinner surprise....maybe putting this here where everyone can see it will remind me next time to heat that corn up!!!!

Thanks for stopping in, have a great day!!

the trees were gorgeous!! most were starting to turn and had beautiful golds and reds...

The beginning of the mummy wrap!!
each group got one roll of bathroom tissue to make their mummy

TA DAH!! The finished mummy!
her team didn't finish first but they still enjoyed themselves...
Everyone enjoyed hotdogs, cookies and more....the kids had a great time!! I am so glad she enjoys things like this....we live in a small town and there is not always a lot for the kids to do but we try to keep her involved in things like this as much as possible....

Fitchburg Furnace

krissa's 4-h photography group took a trip to fitchburg furnace this past weekend, you can click here to read more about fitchburg furnace....so thought I'd share a few pics with you of the trip....odd how you can live so close to some historic landmark and have never visited it,that was the case with me...

our group of 4-h's really enjoyed the trip and took lots of pics, with lotssss of walking

don't you just love that quilt block painted on the old barn...that's a big thing in this neck of the woods, I have plans to put one on the side of our garage but haven't got it started yet....

wonderful scenery every which way you looked...

and my fav pic of the day, I love the old historic stuff but the family time together was great!!

I have to admit that I was wiped out when we left, all the walking and climbing and traisping thru the woods was great but my old body is to out of shape for much of it....of course the kiddies didn't seem tired at all!!

Hope you enjoyed this glimpse of our day, and if you are interested just check out the link above to read about the history of fitchburg furnace.
P.S. To all the family and fans of Patrick Swayze, we suffered a terrible loss a couple of days ago....his illness finally won and tho he fought hard to stay with us at least he is no longer in pain....I never met him but would have loved to....I could watch his movies time and again and never get tired of them....krissa,who is 10, loves some of his movies too....they just had an appeal that had no age limits attached....My prayers are for his family, to have the strength to go on without him....and for Patrick-I hope you know you brightened the day for many of us with your movies.
Take care everyone.

Roadside Walking

we have a habit of walking, either in the morning before school or in the evening before bed....
so on sunday evening we took our little walk and Krissa bought the camera along...
guess these red leaves mean fall is on its way...where did the summer go?? school has been back in session for about a month now but I'm not ready for the cold weather that is sure to come before long...our summer has been unseasonably cool this year with lots of rain...
so anyway, thought I'd share these pics with you

seasons are just another one of those things we have no control over, they come and pass
as they are meant to and no amount of wishing can change that...guess I'd better start hunting out those sweaters and find that rake!! and I'll think about the good things in fall, like raking up all those leaves into one huge pile so the kiddies can jump in and play!! I can remember when that was the funnest thing around, I loved jumping in those leaves. Ahhh, but that was when I was a whole lot younger and a whole lot lighter!! LOL.
Thanks for stopping in and have a great week.

Tarpin and Frog Stories

As I have said before, Krissa is always bringing these critters home....she's discovered that if she goes in the ditch line in front of our house she can usually find a tarpin or two to drag up to the house....lol,then she gets so mad when they crawl away again during the night....she'd bring them in the house if I let her....and frogs seem to another fav for her to gather up....about 3 yrs. ago she found a bunch on little frogs and put them in a bucket and snuck them in the house.....later that evening after dark we had the front door open and I was sitting in a chair when all of a sudden a big one jumped in the door and onto my leg......after I quit squalling and jumping around we had a good laugh about it....I told her that was the mommy frog and she was looking for her babies....
Krissa decided to turn her baby frogs back loose before the mommy frog came back in again!!
thank goodness that was the last time she bought frogs in the house.....
this is a cute little card that Krissa made at church wednesday nite....and I better get in bed if I want to get up in time in the morning to go...
Thanks for looking and have a great sunday!

A Tribute

February 22, 1932 - August 25, 2009

We have spent the afternoon saying goodbye to a face that almost every american would recognize. As we watched the television reports of this great man being laid to rest I was touched by the many people who stood in the heat of the day to wave one last goodbye as he was driven by to his last resting place at Arlington Cem. It doesn't matter what your politics are, or if you agreed or disagreed with his opinions or some of the decisions he made in his life, you still have to agree that he was a major part of our history. The days of "Camelot" have long passed us by, but for those of us that are old enough to remember, the dream still lives on.

I googled the above picture, and could not find who to give the credits to for it, but the words and feelings expressed are mine. I just wanted, in some small way, to pay my tributes to this man and his family.
